Indigo Rope Dyeing Process 2.0: Tencel™ Modal
The denim industry has always relied on indigo dyes as one of its most demanded natural dyes, but the process of applying it can use a lot of resources.

Traditionally, indigo rope dyeing required large amounts of energy, water, and chemicals. Now, the Lenzing Group has created a new indigo dye application process called Tencel™ Modal with Indigo.

Using a one-step, spun-dying process, the indigo dye can be applied much faster and more environmentally friendly than the traditional method.

Backed by the EU Ecolabel, the official European Union voluntary label for environmental excellence, the process uses a one-step, spun-dying process; the indigo dye can be applied much faster and more environmentally friendly than the traditional method.

As a proud Tencel™ supplier, we are excited to share with you all the benefits this innovative process offers.

The Lenzing Group realised that the conventional process required too many resources, which led them to innovate. To do this, they compared both supply chains and determined how to improve it. The result is as follows:

According to Lenzing, Modal Tencel™ improves the rope dyeing process by:

  • 99% less water
  • 80% fewer chemicals
  • 98% less electricity
  • 99% less wastewater
  • 100% less energy

The best thing about all of this, it does not affect the quality output of the dye, despite only being a one-step, spun-dying process.

Lenzing Modal offers premium quality features, such as colour retention, enhanced breathability, long-lasting softness, and moisture absorption.

This combination of features combined with the reduction of resources makes the indigo dyeing method a much more sustainable option for the planet.
